Hometown: Abamarle High School North Carolina
Janice was born in North Carolina and went to high school in North Carolina. She earned a Bachelors degree at the Women’s College of the University of North Carolina. Ira and Janice had 2 children, Janice was a social worker for may years. Janice did a lot of work in promoting Holocaust and Civil Rights fellowship.
Ira and Janice married in 1963 after meeting at Hillel at UNC. In 1959 when Ira first arrived at the University of North Carolina.
They married in 1963. On the same day that Arthur Fried and Susan Braverman got married.

Born in Brooklyn, Joel was a devoted family man and loyal friend. He loved Basketball and played for Madison HS, Newberry College and the Army. He is remembered for his warmth and engaging smile. Joel was married to Barbara, they had twin daughters and four Grandchildren.

Class of 1959·1941 – 2021
Arthur was raised in the Marine Park section of Brooklyn. His parents were officers of the Marine Park Jewish Center. Arthur attended Madison, where he met his future wife, Susan Braverman. Susan was elected the SGO secretary & voted the most popular girl in the graduating class of 1959 Artie was a “Go Getter at Madison”. After Graduating from Madison in 1959 Arthur earned a B.B.A. from Bernard M. Baruch School of Business and Public Administration in 1963, a J.D. from Brooklyn Law School in 1968, and an M.B.A. in Health Care Administration from City University of New York in 1983.
Arthur retired as a Managing Director and CFO of Lehman Brothers in 1981. Arthur and Susan then made “Aliya” and moved to Jerusalem. Arthur then went on to become the CEO of The Rothschild Foundation, Jerusalem/Geneva, a position he held until November 1999. Thereafter, he served until December 2012, as Chairman and CEO of The AVI CHAI Foundation funded by the Estate of Zalman C. Bernstein.
Arthur & Susan had seven children and now have many wonderful grandchildren. The family all live in Israel and often visit the United States. They also have a summer home in France.

Billy Galantai was named All City in Basketball at Madison. After graduating in 1959 he attended Wilmington Junior College, transferring to the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. Billy as he did at Madison was a member of the UNC-CH Basketball team under Coach Frank MacGuire. After UNC-CH Billy married, he and his wife had one son and he started a career in Academia. He ended his career as a Principal on Long Island.
